What Types of Information Does RYF Collect?

RYF only collects information that is provided to us on a voluntary basis, through any of the methods listed in the section above.  For example, we collect information that you provide to us when you sign-up for the 21-Day Vegan Caribbean Kickstart email-series; through third-party service providers when you make a donation through our third-party payment processor; and automatically through your use of the Site, such as through the use of cookies (see section, “Does RYF use “cookies” on this website?”).

The information we collect includes what is known as “Personal Information,” which is information that, either alone or in combination with other information, identifies you. We collect Personal Information such as your name and e-mail address when you sign up to receive the kickstart email-series and e-newsletter. When we combine Personal Information with other information that does not, on its own, identify you, we treat the combined information as Personal Information.

How Does RYF Use the Information that is Collected?

We use your information to send you content, such as our email-series and e-newsletters, as well as details about our campaigns, events and other outreach activities, contests, volunteer opportunities and action alerts; employment opportunities, donation asks and renewal appeals.  (You can choose to opt out of any of our communication lists at any time and re-join at any time.  See section, “Can I Unsubscribe from Communications from RYF?”).

The information we receive from this Site is also for purposes of research and analytics to offer general statistical quantitative data to donors, and to better understand the population we serve and improve our ability to serve this population.

RYF uses information gathered via this Site to improve our web-based campaigns. We may perform statistical analyses of aggregate user behavior and characteristics in order to measure interest in and use of various areas on this Site and to use such information to improve our websites’ ability to serve you.

If you opt in to receive action alerts on your mobile phone, we may use the phone number that you provide to send SMS messages with information on RYF programs and campaigns. Although we do not charge for this service, standard messaging and data rates may apply. (You may unsubscribe from receiving communications from RYF at any time.  See section, “Can I Unsubscribe from Communications from RYF?”)

We employ service providers to perform tasks on our behalf or to assist us. For example, we use service providers to generate and track our email-series, e-newsletters, generate and track surveys, donation management, and credit card processing (Google For Nonprofits, Ontraport and PayPal); website analytics (Google Analytics); and social media integration (Google, Facebook, Twitter). To help us connect with new audiences, some of these third parties may temporarily process limited amounts of Personal Information on our behalf. During that process, we take steps to avoid or minimize the use of Personal Information, such as converting information into a cryptographic hash and then providing only the hash to a service provider.

Does RYF use “cookies” on this website?

RYF uses “cookies” and pixels on some webpages. A cookie is a small piece of data that is stored on a visitor’s hard drive but does not contain any personal information itself. Cookies enhance a visitor’s experience by preventing the visitor from having to log in or provide information each time the person revisits a webpage and by customizing content based on a visitor’s interests. Pixels, often used in connection with cookies, are small blocks of code on webpages that perform functions such as allowing another server to measure viewing statistics for a webpage. Visitors can configure their browsers to refuse cookies or to be alerted when a site is attempting to send a cookie, although some pages may not function properly without accepting cookies. RYF and third-party vendors, including Google, Facebook and Twitter, use cookies and pixels to show website visitors ads based on a visitor’s prior visits to the website as well as first-party cookies (such as the Google Analytics cookies) to report how ad impressions, other uses of ad services and interactions with them correspond to visits to our web site. For more information on Google Analytics’ processing of Personal Information, please see https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

RYF also makes use of demographic information gathered via Google Analytics Demographics & Interests reports to gain a deeper understanding of the visitors to our website so that we can cater content to them accordingly while also tracking our success at reaching new populations of people. Visitors who want to opt out of Google’s use of cookies in these ways can do so by visiting the Google advertising opt-out page. Other options for managing the use of third-party cookies and pixels are available at https://optout.aboutads.info/ and Network Advertising Initiative. RYF may also use cookies to administer its websites, track visitor movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use.
