Tostones
Ingredients
- Green plantains (the best are the one just starting to turn yellow in some parts)
- Enough water only cover bottom of the pot ⅛ inches high
Instructions
- Peel the plantains and cut into 1 inch think cylinders.
- Heat the oil to medium heat.
- When hot, add the plantain pieces. Fry for 1 minute, turn over and fry for another minute.
- Remove plantains from pot and gently press to shape them into thick disks.
- Return plantains to the pot and fry both sides until golden.
- Remove from pot and place plantains on a plate with layers of paper towel to drain the excess oil.
